RC Yacht and Speed Boat

I Gotta coupla Toys. Dad had a toy, a flying “dope” powered plane on cables that he built from a balsa kit. You stood on the ground with a two cable-control line and turned in circles as it flew up and down around you. The fuel smelt weird, and we were not old enough to fly it. The engine was a bastard to turn over to start. It got dusty pretty quick…

About four years ago, I bought a couple of dirt cheap radio controlled planes to share with the boys. It was fun for a little while. The flight/batteries might last 5 minutes, and charge up for 10. That is why 2 planes. Slow entertainment. It is getting dusty. However… Now… Maybe pull it out again and fly it when we cannot fly the kites instead.

The Subi

The same with a radio control Subaru model car. I bought it in pieces for about a year to  assemble with Son#2. What a waste of time. Fast but fragile. Want to buy it? The Subi had two battery packs, I was ahead of the game I thought. I had even bought two more for it way back. SO… $600 plus and the thing still only entertained for twenty minutes a go.

The local model shop for RC toys has closed down. A sale was on. I looked. And thought all day. Near closing time… And so I was sucked in for a couple of BOATS.

After work, made sure the kids were home safe and then. Into the van and down the lake!

After an awkward drive BACK to the store; the drive shaft-end was missing a piece, AND the remote control had leaking batteries, and would not work until I removed the rust on the contacts… I so wanted to have a little go last night!

The Gels and I had a noice little “drive” on the local lake with the speed boat. No pics on the water today, sorry. Beautiful late Autumn day too. The lake was mill pond calm. The yacht is still to get wet.

The gels did a good job and I hope they liked it. The weeds did not hold us back, and the dodgy repair worked well. Then the batteries died, and the next Birthday Party Event was on Soon, so home we went. The speed boat has five packs. Not even 5 min and the dodgy re-repair did not work, the battery packs were only slightly re-charged. Dang. There are three re-chargers on the go right now so I can get another hour or two out of the bloody thing on the morrow! 15 hours to recharge? WT?

But the yacht will be a bit more fun I think.  If I cannot go to Sandy Point on the spur of the moment, I will get some quiet & less strenuous entertainment at a moments notice. It only needs a breeze and some AA batteries. A round dozen!

Some action pictures coming up next installment! I think.

And now TOMORROW… The batteries were crap and so no shots of a zooming speed boat. However, the yacht was nice and calming, apart form the main sheet undoing out on the water…

Ah, wonder what the rich people are doing. Pass the rum and coke will ya?
