Enlarging Vineyard

thanks to Harry

I forgot to help out Tuesday last at a friends place, typical. An earlier call had me organised to retrieve some shiraz and chardonnay plants, about twenty or so, before they were mulched. A call this morning [Sat.] had me rushing about in a very guilty state of mind! Did not help with a late start to the week’s laundry and a promise to shop for Daughter#2 because she had a party to go to tomorrow- sheesh!

So drove the van out to Harry’s place and helped to dig up the nearly 5 year old plants.  The vines’ condition was not great. Shiraz were cuttings grown and okay. Chardonnay shrubs were previously rescued from a  mulching threat, and two were poorly.

Ended up with 14 of the shiraz and 12 good chardonnay.

Invested in some medium plastic pots at the cheap hardware store, and shall endeavor to pot them all tomorrow, weather permitting.

Sunday- The Plan

Dig out all the viable cuttingd from 10/11 plantings. Don’t expect too much as putting in the larger occupied pots did not really work out. Will put them in separate pots with new potting mixture, and cross fingers

Start the 11/12 cuttings I suppose, have a bunch of starter pots.

Then get into maximum work effort, prune back overgrown side fence hedge, and the front row of crappy hedgey but definitely not hedge bushes, maybe cut the front gate shrubs RIGHT down, or remove…

Sort and pot vines, as to suitability to size pot…

Trailer- load leafy twiggy and crappy stuff to swap for some river dirt at Harry’s place tomorrow! Then have dinner with H and Maz an’ kids with homemade apricot wines, cider and vino!
