Clean up or and out

From the Shed on a Clean Up or and Out with Crap Day

Choices- keep or throw and why

When you clean up and out with the crap, is there nostalgia? Tears? Gratification? Is it Carthartic in any way? Maybe this will end up in a doco on “Crap I Once Kept For That Rainy Day“, along with the other posts… The Hoarder [I have three old pc’s…]

On a stout bottling day recently I really needed to get stuff out of the Alcoholery’s nook and crannies. Moving around the chocolate grain, liquorice essence, lactose sugar, you know. Pondering on this as I retrieved some crap, some memories came back of once being a Wellsite Geologist because…

There was an old airline pilots brief case full of old crap, stored away, hidden almost. The crap in it was a few old coins and Crap that was Disposed of, No tears there.

The case

I bought this moderately expensive case for use on my first job as a Wellsite Geologist. The job was in SW Queensland, on contract from Gearhart Geodata to Delhi Petroleum. I loved the job, and the case. It carried my Notes, Instructions, Mud Maps, a Sharp Programmable Calculator. Everything. Mind, the dust you see is Alcoholery Dust, not Desert Dust, vintage 2002…

The Calculator

I once searched for something cheaper in Adelaide that was not a New Laptop, but something…smaller. Some research and asking around and bargaining I found this little contraption. I spent hours on it: making up little handy Wellsite Geologist programmes in BASIC, recording them to the MicroCassette, printing off in colour the results… Sw, porosity, water saturation, all that jazz. The little computer had a case and all, very tidy for its day. Used for less than four contracts. Bugger. But then it travelled to the UK for another contract, coming in handy for the Data Engineering job in the North Sea. And then after that, dust gathering since 1992…

So in the end, is it Clean up or/and out? Recycling may not be the answer this time. I don wanna chuck em, but this is one way to keep em if I do. No one else would have em. These days such is life…
